What do our Alginate Names mean?

You may have noticed that most of our alginate formulas begin with a number. This is a bit confusing at first, but once you understand, it makes everything a lot easier.

Our 590-IBG alginate is formulated to set in approx. 5 minutes when mixed with 90°F water. (5-90)

Our 270, 370, 380, 390, 570, 580, 680 and 880 formulas follow the same convention.

Our Genesis products are a little different. The Genesis "V" formula sets in 5:30 when using 70°F water and Genesis "X" sets in 10 minutes. The V and X are Roman Numerals for 5 and 10. This helps you figure out which is which.

In general, the larger the project, the more time you need to get the alginate mixed and placed on the subject. Warmer water makes your model more comfortable. For a complete breakdown of which alginates are recommended for what jobs, please see the Alginate Recommendation Chart HERE.
