Algi-Bond
What do you do when the alginate begins to set before you're finished applying it?
You can either wipe all the alginate off the model and start again,
OR- you can wet down the surface of the alginate with Algi-Bond, mix up another batch of alginate and continue.
Algi-Bond softens the surface of "set" alginate which allows a second layer to stick to the first. While not an ideal solution- it can "pull your fat out of the fryer" when things go wrong. Better solutions would be 1) obviously- to use the correct alginate (one with the appropriate setting time), 2) use cooler water to extend the setting time, or 3) work faster so you get the job done in the available time. But if you are doing an enormous job, or the air temperature is really hot and there's nothing you can do about it- break out the Algi-Bond and just finish up the project.
Algi-Bond comes in a 50g packet. It can be added to 2 gallons of warm water to make the Algi-Bond solution. Wet the alginate surface with a spray bottle or paint brush- wait 2 minutes, then apply the second coat of alginate. Voila.......
